Seeds of Community — a program of Prairie Roots Restoration

Many ways to show up.

There's no single way to be a neighbor. Here are some ways to get involved with Seeds of Community — whatever your energy level or commitment.

Choose how you want to show up.

🌱

Attend an event

the easiest way to start

Every Seeds of Community event is free and open to anyone. No registration required. No commitment. Just show up. If there's an event in your town, come see what it's about. If you like it, come back.

Become a volunteer

the backbone of the program

Volunteers are who make events happen. Help set up the event. Help distribute food. Be a 'book' in the Human Library. Teach cumbia. Run the wrestling tournament bracket. There is a role for any energy level and any skill set.

Be a local partner

businesses, churches, community organizations

If you have a food business, a church kitchen, a formal wear shop, an animal rescue — consider partnering with an event. Grant funds go directly to local vendors. Your business gets visibility. The community gets a better event.

Bring Seeds to your Walmart

for store managers

If you are a Walmart store manager in a small town across Nebraska, Iowa, or Minnesota — or know one — Walmart's Spark Good Local Grants program is how Seeds of Community reaches new towns. The process is straightforward. We do the work. You bring the local knowledge.

For Walmart store managers

How Spark Good works

Walmart's Spark Good Local Grants program allows store managers to recommend grants of $250 to $5,000 to local nonprofit organizations. If your store is in a small town across Nebraska, Iowa, or Minnesota, Seeds of Community can bring an event directly to your town.

Here's how it works for managers:

  • The store applies to the Spark Good Local Grants program through Walmart's Deed portal
  • The manager recommends Seeds of Community / Prairie Roots Restoration (EIN 93-4976456)
  • If approved, we work with you to design the right event for your community
  • Funds go directly to local food vendors and event supplies
  • You choose whether to be involved in planning or let us run the program as planned

If there's something your community needs — a food drive, a back-to-school supply event, something entirely different — we can build that with you too.
