Walmart created Spark Good because they believe local stores should be anchors of community life — not just retail. The goal isn't charity. It's connection. It's showing up for the towns where Walmart actually lives.
The challenge with small community grants is that most programs can't do enough with them to make a lasting impression. The program is fine. People come. It's forgotten by Tuesday.
Seeds of Community is built for exactly this. We don't need much to throw an event that a town talks about for years — and when that event is Walmart Spark Good, that memory belongs to Walmart too. One small grant. Permanent community recognition. That's a return on investment most programs can't offer.
And the individual store manager isn't a corporate middleman here — they're a local. We welcome manager input on every event. Which means from day one, the event has local direction, local knowledge, and a local champion. The store is part of the program, not just the funder.
